About the City of Guanajuato, Mexico

Guanajuato Mexico, located in central mexican state of the same name. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Guanajuato is a magical colonial city with an interesting geography and unique architectural esthetics of flowery imagination and great beauty.

Quick Facts:

  • The town proper has a population of about 71,000, and including the surrounding the municipalities totals approximately 153,000 inhabitants.
  • Elevation of 1,996 m (6,550 ft) above sea level.
  • Summertime temperatures average 70°F (21°C) during the day and 59°F (15°C) at night.
  • Winter temperatures average 68°F (20°C)  during the day and 41°F (5°C) at night.

How to Get Here

Via Leon/Bajio Airport

The Leon airport is about a 30 minute cab ride from Guanajuato, and serves international direct flights from all majors hubs in the Southern U.S. as well as from Mexico City. Upon arriving at Leon, take a taxi ($30-$40 USD) to Guanajuato. No buses serve the Leon airport.

Via Mexico City

From the Mexico City airport, take a taxi (all charge a flat rate in advance) to the "North" bus station, Central de Autobuses del Norte, and then take a First class or Luxury class bus from either ETN, Futura or Primera Plus bus lines.  A bus leaves every hour so, and  the travel time for the First class or Luxury class buses is approximately 5 hours.

Via Guadalajara

Similar to Mexico City; take a taxi from the airport to the Central de Autobuses and then a First class or Luxury class bus to Guanajuato.  Trip time runs about 4.5 to 5 hours.
